Veneers – Introduction

Usually made of porcelain, Veneers are extremely thin shells that are laid onto the teeth and bonded to the surface – The use of porcelain for veneers ensures that there is durability and natural appearance in the teeth structure. As compared to crowns, Veneers require a much lesser removal of the tooth’s original surface. But, the result of using Veneers is nothing sort of extraordinary – you can expect straighter, whiter, and more even looking teeth.

The procedure

What happens during the first visit?

The dentist will try to understand the needs and of the patient and in turn, the dentist will explain the complete process of placing veneers and the options available (e.g. types and shades of veneers).

The next visit is intended to create a mold of the teeth – This begins by removing the outer enamel of the teeth. In some cases a local anesthesia may be used. Once the impression of the cleaned teeth is taken, a mold of the teeth is created and sent to dental lab where a customized veneer for the teeth is created. The lab prepares the veneers in roughly seven to ten days. Due to the removal of the outer layer of enamel, the teeth wears a slightly corroded like during this interim period. Some patients choose to have temporary restorations placed on their teeth, but this step is usually not necessary.

The final visit…

The patient makes their final dental visit once the veneers have been created and returned to the dentists. The dentist applies the veneer to the tooth using a bonding material. The veneer is completely bonded to the teeth once it is exposed to the light and air.

Post-procedure

Apart from very minor sensitivity after the procedure, there are no major medical side effects experienced after the procedure – Patients may experience some low level irritations especially with contact to hot or cold substances. Any minor irritation should subside within two weeks. Veneers are usually pretty durable and can withstand a large force. Daily dental hygiene should be maintained for veneers much the same way as normal teeth; this includes daily brushing, flossing, and periodic check-ups with a dentist.

Our expert panel of dentists will ensure that your veneers are intact till the last days of your life – with the most precision-based procedure and dental hygiene counseling.
